An examination of the forest app and its effects on procrastination

Introduction

Procrastination: it’s one of the most common vices that haunts all types of people all over the world, and yet it remains so hard to define. How long does a person need to put off an average task to be considered a procrastinator? How negatively does it need to affect their personal lives? Or does it need to affect a person’s personal life at all?

​

“Solving” procrastination is also a tricky task. One Google search for “procrastination” yields more than 48 million results and a treasure trove of possible methods to combat it: the pomodoro timer method, cognitive therapy, using special agendas, improving sleep and nutrition, and more. How does an average person know where to begin?

Put yourself in their shoes: An assessment of an LGBT-themed game A Closed World

​

Abstract

Although serious games have been studied as impactful media, few studies have been conducted on LGBT-themed serious games. This comparison study aims to evaluate the relative effectiveness of a serious game A Closed World, and further examine whether serious games shall serve as a better educational tool than its non-game-based counterpart. Both a quantitative and a qualitative survey will be carried through to test the hypotheses. Finally, the results and their significance will be discussed.
